New authorisation portal supports around 200 insurers and authorised representatives

Many consumers are in contact with their insurer through an authorised agent. The authorized agent ensures efficient handling of the processes between the policyholder and the insurer. They are also closer to the insured and thus guarantee a better customer experience. The authorised agent has a power of attorney (authority) to take out and manage insurance policies on behalf of one or more insurers. An authorized agent does almost everything that an insurer does. In doing so, the insurer places a lot of trust in the power of attorney.

Risk Management Program for Authorized Agents and Insurers

In order to guarantee the activities that an authorised agent performs on behalf of an insurer, the insurers use, among other things, a so-called Risk Management Work Programme. An application that ensures the careful handling of this work program. The authorised agent shares specific control measures and supporting documents with one or more insurers via this application.

Modernization makes the proxy application easier and more secure

The Dutch Association of Insurers and the Dutch Association of Authorised Insurance Companies (NVGA) asked AMIS Conclusion to improve the application for the work programme. AMIS Conclusion has modernised a completely new application, making the work programme simpler, faster and more secure.

Collaboration only makes the application better

The users of the application were closely involved in the modernization. It is the people who have a lot of experience in handling the process who were able to indicate where the bottlenecks are in a joint workshop. The analysts at AMIS Conclusion made a new design of the application aimed at ease of use and efficiency. This immediately resulted in clear improvements from this joint design, such as:

  • The possibility to share documents directly with one or more insurer(s) from an authorised agent;
  • To be able to use the burden of proof in the form of an upload document for multiple control measures;
  • Ensuring scalability at peak times;
  • A modernization of user authentication (eHerkenning) that ensures that the application complies with strict access identification;  Improving the user interface with more effective navigation and ensuring more efficient work.

Alwien Geerts, director of Geerts Adviesgroep and participant in the risk management working group

"Providing the evidence for the risk program is a labor-intensive process for authorized agents. To make this easier, we need a different technique as a basis. This foundation has now been laid. We can now continue to build on time savings in labor."

Agile approach for the creation of a new authorisation portal

In order to effectively put together a new Volmachtplein with the users involved, an agile project approach was chosen. This enabled AMIS Conclusion to respond effectively to the functional requirements and to determine the priority together without losing a lot of time on extensive designs or analyses. This enabled us to deal well with the uncertainty about the functions of the system during the realisation.

The basis of this new Proxy Square is Azure Cloud technology. This makes it easy to scale the application at times of more intensive use. The Angular front-end application along with a Java back-end and open-source database makes maintenance easier. The system only uses open-source available components so that any Java engineer can maintain the system and the Dutch Association of Insurers and NVGA are free to switch to another party for hosting and maintenance if they wish.

Also, the method of authentication in the application has been simplified and made more secure. With the link to eHerkenning, the authorisation portal is in line with the standard for identification in the insurance world. With eHerkenning, insurers and authorised agents save a lot of time since they all already have an eHerkenning means. Through a simple workflow, new users are created by the administrator of the insurer or authorized agent and the user can link his eHerkenning means to his Volmachtplein account.

Peter Vogelsang, policy advisor Proxies at the Dutch Association of Insurers

"The work program and the associated application are quite complex. The many stakeholders within this program make managing functional wishes and requirements a challenge. On top of that, there are the increasing requirements for security. AMIS has shown us improvement and modernization, which is in line with the continuous professionalization of the proxy market."

Successful implementation

Since February 2022, the authorised agents have been connected to the Risk Management Work Programme application in Volmachtplein and use familiar and new functionality. In the coming period, the AMIS Conclusion team will add new functionalities to the Volmachtplein, based on the wishes of the stakeholders. In this way, we are improving the working method for insurance companies in the Netherlands step by step and ensuring a more efficient, time-saving and therefore cost-saving working method.
