Conclusion Cares

‘When I started my internship in 2022, I knew little about sustainability. I even doubted whether the internship would suit me. After only a short time, I was completely converted. I realised how much impact companies have on the environment and I also started thinking about my own emissions. My sudden enthusiasm was mainly due to my colleagues at the time, Maaike and Pim. They explained in an inspiring way why it is so important to be involved in sustainability.’

A wide range of tasks

‘During my traineeship, I was allowed to participate in job interviews to put together the Conclusion Cares team. I also contributed to the first sustainability report. Since it was the first time Conclusion had such a report made, I was given the task of creating a draft. I did this by collecting and studying examples from other companies, which immediately brought my knowledge of sustainability up to scratch.’

Graduate internship in Portugal

‘In the third year of my studies, I did a minor in Manchester. This experience abroad tasted like more. Due to my positive experiences during my first internship, I was also looking for a graduation internship within the ecosystem. Coincidentally, Conclusion then just announced its expansion in Portugal. I had a meeting with the CEO of Neotalent Conclusion, an IT consulting company in Lisbon, and shortly afterwards we finalised the internship papers.

During my graduation internship, I focused on integrating Neotalent's ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) policy with Conclusion's. For my thesis, I researched the impact of an ESG strategy, which showed that 62% of future employees (applicants and those interested in the database) would be more likely to choose Neotalent if the company had an ESG strategy.’

When I took my sandwich out of my bag the first time, I got quite a few puzzled looks.

Netherlands versus Portugal

‘I was excited to leave for Portugal. Fortunately, I was welcomed by my colleagues with open arms. As a result, I soon felt at ease. Of course there were things I had to get used to. Office hours are very different in Portugal, for example. And when I took my sandwich out of my bag for the first time, I got quite a few surprised looks. Fortunately, you quickly get used to having lunch in a restaurant with nice colleagues. Furthermore, I found it inspiring to see how many women hold top positions at Neotalent.’

Future plans

‘When I returned home, I was sad that my time in Portugal was over. Therefore, I decided to go back in September for a language course, followed by two weeks of surf camp. During that period, I want to discover if I miss Portugal, or especially my colleagues at Neotalent. Maybe I want to pursue a master's degree in Portugal or work there in the future. Because of my positive experiences, I certainly don't rule out returning to a company within the ecosystem either. Whether that is in the Netherlands or abroad.’

** Update: This article appeared last year as an internal news item withinConclusion. Annika has now been working at Neotalent Conclusion since 1 April and deals with sustainability
